Winter Weather Advisory for Athens, Surrounding Area

A Winter Weather Advisory in effect for Athens-Clarke and surrounding counties until 10 am Wednesday. Snow is expected and drivers can plan on slippery road conditions, including during the morning commute Wednesday.  Total snow accumulations up to 2 inches are expected. Dangerous wind chills are expected for much of north Georgia tonight. Black ice is also possible tonight across portions of north and west Georgia, where wet roads may re-freeze overnight.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

Also, winds will be very gusty on Wednesday and a Wind Advisory may be needed.

Counties under the advisory include: Athens-Clarke, Oconee, Barrow, Jackson, Madison and Oglethorpe.
