The latest class of University of Georgia students is once again setting records. The class of 2021 has 4.0 average GPA and a record average ACT score of 30. More than 5,800 incoming freshmen will begin studying this fall. They were selected from a pool of nearly 24,500 applicants, a record number which is a 20% increase in just four years. Alton Standifer is the Director of New Student Orientation.

“We are really excited for what this class brings to UGA,” Standifer said. “There are some of the cream of the crop.”

While UGA has set academic records for the past few years, Standifer warns against students and others getting complacent.

“We have friends around campus who begin to think this has happened so long that this is normal, and I’d like to let them know it is not. Every campus across the nation is not in this situation, so this is a special place. I hope these students and their families realize the amazing opportunity this is.”

The incoming class is also bringing increased diversity, with a 20% increase in African-American students and a 33% increase in the number of Hispanic students. Incoming students are from 90 percent of Georgia’s 159 counties. The class of 2021 also includes students from 44 states and 15 countries. This fall UGA also will welcome nearly 1,600 transfer students to campus from more than 300 colleges and universities.
