UGA Professor Killed by Truck While Biking

University of Georgia

A UGA professor died last night as a result of a bicycle accident off of Astondale Road in Bishop. Karen Tinsley, a resident of Watkinsville, was riding her bicycle on Astondale Road close to 7 p.m.

Georgia State Patrol told WUGA that a Ford-150 truck was traveling too closely to the bicycle and struck from behind. Tinsley was thrown from her bicycle. She was then taken to Piedmont Athens Regional where she was pronounced deceased.

Tinsley was a professor in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences and had worked at UGA since 2004.

Charges are pending against the driver of the truck.
