Painter, photographer, and author Judith McWillie is WUGA's featured Artist in Residence for June. This is event is now SOLD OUT. Professor emerita of drawing and painting at the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, McWillie has exhibited her work in the United States, Japan, Italy and Sweden. More recently, in 2016, she produced a two-hour collaborative event, Beloved Land, at Smithonia Plantation House in Oglethorpe County in collaboration with Knowa and Mokah Johnson, musician Peter Sloan, and poet Steven Scurry to honor the Native People and convict laborers buried there.
Over the course of the last 30 years WUGA Radio presented a live variety show that showcased the talents of various performers from the local community. Titled "Once in a Blue Moon", the name suggested the infrequency of the event, with most shows occurring around the stations anniversaries, every 5 to 10 years. However, the success of the show and the talent displayed meant audiences began to clamor for it to be more often.
