The solar eclipse is just a week away and time is running out to get your eclipse glasses. Expert are warning viewers to use the right glasses when taking in the once-in-a lifetime heavenly sight. NASA warns that viewing the eclipse with no eclipse glasses or counterfeit glasses could result in permanent eye damage. Glasses should meet the ISO 12312-2 international standard. Those glasses can be purchased online or at a variety of retail chains across the country. Athens-area residents searching for a place to view the eclipse the University of Georgia is opening Sanford Stadium to Athens-area residents and others searching for a place to view the eclipse. The ‘blackout’ between the hedges takes place August 21st from 1 to 4 pm. The first 10,000 guests will receive a free pair of glasses to view the phenomenon. Those without glasses can view the eclipse on the stadium’s Jumbotron. Professor John Knox says the US hasn’t seen a total solar eclipse like this in nearly 100 years. The moon will block about 99 percent of the sun in Athens. Organizers say the event will go on event if it’s cloudy. Plenty of activities are planned, including experts on hand to explain the science, door prizes, livestreams of the eclipse in other parts of the country, and music.
