Ossoff Not Seeking Rematch in Georgia Race for US House Seat

Georgia Democrat Jon Ossoff is not seeking a rematch against Republican U.S. Rep. Karen Handel, who defeated him last year in the most expensive House election in U.S. history.

Ossoff told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday that he will not enter this year's race in Georgia's 6th District in the northern suburbs of Atlanta. He says he will support Democratic candidates and focus on his career as an investigative journalist.

Last year's special election in the GOP-leaning district was widely regarded as a referendum on President Donald Trump. More than $50 million was spent on the race, which Handel ultimately won in a runoff by about 4 percentage points.

Former newscaster Bobby Kaple and businessman Kevin Abel, both Democrats, are hoping to unseat Handel in November.
