Leftover Eclipse Glasses Can Be Donated to Athens-Clarke County For Redistrubtion

Athens residents have an alternative option to throwing away their leftover glasses from yesterday’s solar eclipse. That's because the Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department is collecting leftover solar eclipse glasses and sending them to the international organization, Astronomers without Borders.

Because the next solar eclipse will be visible in Chile and Argentina in 2019, Astronomers without Borders will be sending the donated eclipse glasses to schools in South America.

Eclipse glasses can be brought to the ACC Solid Waste Office at 725 Hancock Industrial Way or to the ACC Center for Hard to Recycle Materials on 1005 College Avenue.

Astronomers without Borders hosted a similar donation program for African schools in 2013.
