Georgia Ranks as One of the Top States for Singles

WalletHub

Georgia is in the top 20 when it comes to the best states for singles. That’s according to the personal finance website WalletHub.

Jill Gonzalez says the numbers are in your favor when it comes to being single.

"It ranks 17th, so right in the top 20," said Gonzalez about Georgia. "That's because there are simply a lot of singles in Georgia. More than 50% of the population. So obviously if you're dating, ready to be single, or hoping to stay single, It's a good place for you."

Analysts considered a variety of factors when determining the list.

"We looked at the gender balance here which is pretty even in Georgia. Also dating opportunities, especially when it comes to online and local dating participation, which is quite high across the state. But we also looked into dating economics," said Gonzalez.

Gonzalez says there is one area when Georgia could do better.

"The other part of being single is making a living. Good household income, housing affordability, a lot of millenials are pushing off being homeowners.  Job growth rate, unemployment and underemployment rates, some of those areas is where Georgia could do a little bit better," said Gonzalez.

Athens ranks pretty highly for singles as well, according to 24/7 Wall St. The website ranked the Classic City 17th on its list of the “50 best Cities for Singles.” 58 percent of Athenians are single.

Athens also ranked well in the cost of living, which is 8.4% less than the national average. But with an annual personal income of $35,7000, Athens was in the bottom 25.
