Former UGA Football Staff Member Arrested on Unlawful Surveillance and Drug Charges Over Weekend

Georgia Athletics

A former UGA football staff member was arrested over the weekend on unlawful surveillance and drug charges.

According to the UGA police report obtained by WUGA, two wireless cameras were found in the men’s shower in the Butts-Mehre building. A UGA employee reported finding the cameras on February 26th. Kevin Purvis, who served as the associate equipment manager for UGA football, was identified as the suspect responsible for placing the cameras in the showers.

According to a UGA Athletics statement, Purvis was fired early in the investigation. UGA also said that “no student-athletes were victims in this incident.” UGA Police also searched Purvis’ off-campus residence and found marijuana and un-prescribed fentanyl patches. Clarke County Jail records indicate he was arrested on Friday night and released on bond on Saturday.

Purvis is being charged with three felonies regarding the unlawful surveillance, a felony charge for fentanyl possession, and a misdemeanor for marijuana possession.

He joined the UGA football program as a staff member in 2006.
