Athens Man Charged with Murder in Fatal Stabbing

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a homicide on Merlin Drive. According to a media release from Public Information Officer Epifanio Rodriguez, officers called to the scene of a reported stabbing around 10:30 Thursday night. When they arrived they found victim Albert Brown who was suffering from a single stab wound. The 37-year old Athens man was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police say Brown was involved in what started as a verbal argument with suspect Rico Mits. That argument escalated into a physical altercation resulting in the victim being stabbed. The suspect fled from the scene, but police say he was located shortly after the stabbing. The 41-year old Mits was arrested and is charged with Murder.
