Athens Cultural Affairs Commission Grant Winners/Film Screening Partnership

The Athens Cultural Affairs Commission has announced the winners of the 2018 Arts in Community Grant competition. They are: The West Broad Farmers Market, Seat in the Shade Poetry Series, and Parkview Homes Community Center, in affiliation with the University of  Georgia's College of Education. Winners will each receive a $1,500 grant.

Submissions for this year’s grants cycle included proposals for public art works, as well as musical and visual performances. “This year we received a very competitive group of applications, representing a variety of organizations and projects in the Athens area,” said Athens Cultural Affairs Commission Chair, Marc Beechuk. “We look forward to more opportunities to support local public art initiatives in future grant cycles.”

This is the fifth year Arts in Community Grants (AICG) have been offered by the Athens Cultural Affairs Commission, an appointed body of the Athens-Clarke County municipal government which strives to foster the development and enjoyment of performing, visual, cultural and other arts in the Athens community.

The organization is also announcing that it will be a Screening Partner for the 2018-2019 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers. The organization works with a network of venues and filmmakers to share independent films with people in communities across the south.

The ACAC is planning six screenings, three this fall and three in Spring 2019, throughout Athens-Clarke County. The screenings will focus on community accessibility. They will be free and open to the public.
