Athens Area Under Hazardous Weather Outlook

A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for several north and central  Georgia counties, including: Clarke, Barrow, Jackson, Madison, Oconee, and Oglethorpe. A flash flood watch is in effect beginning Monday tonight through Wednesday afternoon.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to begin increasing in coverage Monday afternoon and into the overnight hours Monday tonight. Heavy rainfall, up to one to two inches per hour and frequent lightning will be the primary hazards. A break in the storms is expected Tuesday afternoon before additional storms develop.

Forecasters  warn some strong to isolated severe thunderstorms will be possible with damaging winds, hail, and heavy rainfall being the primary threats.
