An agreement has finally been reached between Piedmont Healthcare and Blue Cross.

After continued pressure from Governor Nathan Deal, the two healthcare companies, Piedmont Healthcare and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia have agreed to a new contract. The agreement was reached at close of business on Tuesday afternoon.

Deal had met with leaders of both companies on Monday and told them they needed to reach an agreement by Tuesday afternoon or else he would be forced to “initiate executive action.”

The new contract will start June 1and last three years. However, the previous contract, which had expired on April 1, will be extended through June 1. All patients who visit Piedmont providers during this extension will still pay in-network rates.

Blue Cross is increasing their reimbursement rate for Piedmont providers in the new contract.
