The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department and other government staff will work with crews from J & M Displays in launching fireworks downtown. They are testing potential sites for the 2018 Star Spangled Classic event. Test launches will be fired from Lay Park ball field on Hoyt Street and from the northern end of Hickory Street and Willow Street.
Appropriate ACC Fire and Emergency Services Department and Police Department personnel will be involved to manage the event and monitor all safety considerations.
ACC fire and police personnel will be there as a precaution. The launches are expected to happen from 7:15 to 7:45. The launches will allow staff to determine the best spot for future fireworks shows. As a part of the test launch, portions of Hickory Street and Willow Street will be closed on Wednesday, November 15 between 7:00-8:30 p.m.
