June Artist in Residence Event
Saturday, June 24 3:00pm-5:00pm
Painter, photographer, and author Judith McWillie is the station's featured Artist in Residence for June. Professor emerita of drawing and painting at the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, McWillie has exhibited her work in the United States, Japan, Italy and Sweden. More recently, in 2016, she produced a two-hour collaborative event, Beloved Land, at Smithonia Plantation House in Oglethorpe County in collaboration with Knowa and Mokah Johnson, musician Peter Sloan, and poet Steven Scurry to honor the Native People and convict laborers buried there. McWillie has written extensively about African American vernacular art for arts magazines, journals, and anthologies. Her most recent work focuses on paintings and photographs of the night sky. The event will be held at Judith McWillie's unique home on Saturday, June 24th, from 3 to 5. Friends of WUGA pay $10 to attend, and others pay $15.
