Holiday Specials for Thanksgiving!

In honor of the Thanksgiving Tradition, WUGA will present a number of specials in 2017. Here is a rundown of what's available:

THURSDAY NOV. 23

Happy Holiday(ish) from Terrible Thanks for Asking(9AM)

In this second-annual holiday radio extravaganza, Terrible, Thanks for Asking host Nora McInerny will once again bedazzle this difficult time of year with humor, stories, and the very real realness of reality.

Join Nora for a conversation about holiday missteps with memoirist Augusten Burroughs, enjoy cheer and some humbug from special guests, and stories from listeners about their worst holidays ever.

The Splendid Table's Turkey Confidential LIVE (Noon-2PM)

Thanksgiving is full of high expectations, a huge menu and a house full of guests – which can make for a stressful day or two in the kitchen. That's why holiday hosts, kitchen helpers and dinner guests alike tune into The Splendid Table's "Turkey Confidential" on the biggest cooking day of the year.

This year offers double the fun, with co-hosts Lynne Rossetto Kasper and Francis Lam. They'll tag-team listener calls, and talk about their favorite Thanksgiving dishes and memories with guests Lidia Bastianich, Marcus Samuelsson, and Amy Sedaris.

This will be Lynne's last "Turkey Confidential," as she retires in December, and turns over the reins to Francis in 2018.

Giving Thanks(2PM) (encore Sun. 11/26 @ 11Am)

Giving Thanks" offers a contemporary celebration of gratitude, with classical music and stories of Thanksgiving. This year's special guests include world-famous chef Jacques Pepin, and his 13-year-old granddaughter, Shorey, with whom he co-authored his most recent book, "A Grandfather's Lessons"; Francis Lam, new host of The Splendid Table, with his recent, James Beard Award-winning Thanksgiving essay about immigrants.

eTown On The Road: Live From Athens, GA. (9PM)

A special encore airing of Etown's event here in Athens! eTown turns on the southern charm as the crew hits the road to Athens, Georgia for a very special radio broadcast from the legendary Georgia Theater with local group Cicada Rhythm plus longtime friend of the show JJ Grey. We have lots of great music from both artists, plus a great eChievement Award story about a Georgia-based organization that is helping to provide books and the joy of reading to children in the area.

FRIDAY NOV. 24

Marketplace Tech's Holidays of The Future(9AM)

Marketplace Tech host Molly Wood explores the future of holiday purchases and celebrations. How will the holiday experience change in the next decade? How will we buy things? What machines and bots will join us around the dinner table? What companies will be household names? How will people with less money be utilizing technology? It's an entertaining examination of current tech trends and predictions on tech's lasting effects on our most special occasions.

With Good Reason Special: Ghost Suppers(1PM)(encore Sun. 11/26 @ Noon)

This is the season of the Ghost Supper, where tribes in the Great Lakes region honor ancestors and loved ones with traditional and favorite dishes.  Lee Sprague is teaching young people how to harvest and eat the foods that once sustained their tribal ancestors.

The Hilarious World of Depression Coping with the Holidays Spectacular (3PM)

Host John Moe presents an hour of fun, unusual, and intriguing ways for people with depression to get through the holiday season. With family visits, consumer demands, brutal weather, dark skies, and other factors, this time of year tries a depressive's nerves the most, especially when they're constantly being told how wonderful things are and how happy they should be.

Enjoy entertaining, moving, useful, and, yes, hilarious stories from celebrity guests and listeners about the unusual tips and tricks they use to get through the holidays.

Hope you Enjoy, and Happy Thanksgiving!
