New Football Gameday Rate Set for Downtown Athens Parking Decks

20 March 2014

ATHENS – New Gameday parking prices for the upcoming season set for University of Georgia football fans.

The new rate allows a full weekend’s worth of parking in downtown Athens parking decks on College Avenue and Washington Street for $25. This is a change from the past, in which fans paid $25 just for gameday parking.

The Athens Downtown Development Authority Board approved the change in parking prices at the meeting on Tuesday. They also approved a change in the parking rate structure that allows parking from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Sunday on football weekends for those who purchase a permit. However, if you want to park in one of the two decks, you have to buy a permit to cover the entire season, which will cost $175. Permit holders will be allowed to leave and re-enter the deck throughout the weekend. They will also be able to use any vehicle to enter the parking deck.

Not all deck spaces will be available for football weekends. According to Chuck Horton, director of Downtown Athens Parking Services, around 300 spaces will be available for the new plan.

Promotion of the new parking rate is planned to begin around April 12 with the G-Day intrasquad football game.
