Student Protest Planned Against ‘Campus Carry’
Licensed gun owners could carry concealed handguns on public college campuses under legislation backed by a Senate committee.
A group of University of Georgia students is planning a rally opposing that Campus Carry legislation. Organizer Mallory Harris says those against the measure includes a wide range of students, faculty, staff and concerned citizens.
”“Coming to the rally is good, we want to have the numbers, we want to have the pictures and send those off,” according to Harris.
She also says that rally is just one way of showing opposition to the measure.
“So definitely reaching out to your senators, also going ahead and getting started on Nathan Deal. A great way to do that is to text veto to 64433 which will connect you to Everytown for Gun Safety’s platform and then it will direct you to the governor.
The protest is planned for Tuesday, March 21st from 5 pm to 6:30pm at the Arch. Gov. Nathan Deal last year vetoed similar legislation. The University System of Georgia opposes the bill. Georgia is among 17 states banning concealed weapons on campus.
