Oconee County Planning “Walk and Talk with a Scientist Event”

19 April 2017

Oconee County will be hosting a complementary event to the Athens March for Science, this Sunday.

The event called “Walk and Talk with a Scientist” is being held from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday in Herman C. Michael Park in Oconee County.

“It’s a chance for members of the public to come and meet some of the top-flight scientists in our area. And instead of just talking face-to-face they’ll be walking around a very pleasant path there,” said Pat Priest, one of the event organizers.

The Oconee County Democrats, who have spearheaded the event, want to emphasize that it is non-partisan, because science is non-partisan. Neal Priest is also one of the event organizers, as well as an emergency room doctor.

“We perceive that it’s a really good opportunity for scientists to be able to get out to the public, because in fact, science impacts every aspect of our society, every single thing that you do, every day,” said Neal Priest.

Scientists, elected officials, students, and anyone from the general public who is interested can attend this free event on April 23rd.
