Envision Athens Summit
Athens Residents, those with business interests in Athens, and others are invited to attend a community summit Thursday.
Members of the Athens community and others are encouraged to attend Envison Athens Community Summit for the Future at the Classic Center. It’s the second major public engagement for the organization.
“The purpose of the Summit for the Future meeting is to report back to community on what the steering committee has heard and what the consultants have gleaned from previous public interaction and study that’s been done,” according to County Manager Blaine Williams.
“They want to check in with the community and they want to ask the community, ‘Are we in the right place, are these the things we need to be focused on’? “
Coordinators say the summit will provide those attending a chance to get involved in the planning direction for community and economic development in Athens. Williams says this is an unusual opportunity.
“You know, for only being about a two-hour long meeting, I think it’s fascinating, ” Williams said. “I think citizens will really enjoy getting a broad look at the community and some of the big issues we need to deal with.”
The summit is 5:30 to 7:30 Thursday evening at the Classic Center. For more information, contact the Athens-Clarke County Manager’s Office at 706-613-3020, or visit the website http://www.envisionathens.com.
