Governor Deal Calls for Special Election
On Friday of last week, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal congratulated Secretary Tom Price on his confirmation as the US Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Deal then called for a special election on April 18th to fill Price’s seat in the 6th Congressional District. That district consists of many of the northern suburbs of Atlanta, including eastern Cobb County, northern Fulton County, and the Dunwoody area of northern Dekalb county. The qualifying period for that election opened today and will stay open until Wednesday, February 13th.
Following the special election in April, a runoff election will take place on Tuesday, June 20th.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that former State Senator Ron Slotin, former State Representative Sally Harrell, and former State Senator Judson Hill are among the candidates for this position. The field of candidates range from liberal candidates running against President Trump’s initiatives to conservatives who promise to be his biggest ally.
