UGA Student Emerges from Medically Induced Coma
ATHENS - A UGA student who was struck by a car while riding his scooter on Monday has emerged from a medically induced coma.
Raphael Arbelaez, a dedicated University of Georgia student, came out of a medically induced coma on Wednesday, two days after being struck by a car while riding his scooter to a study group.
The accident occurred at about 4:15 pm Monday when Arbelaez attempted to cross West Broad Street and was blindsided by car.
His injuries included a skull fracture and a swollen, bleeding brain.
Arbelaez has shown notable signs of improvement. His friends and family are confident he will make a full recovery.
For the time being, Raphael Arbelaez remains in good hands at Athens Regional Medical Center.
