ATHENS - A man with drugs in his car led police on a dangerous high-speed chase through Athens on Wednesday evening.

The 26-year-old Baldwin man caught the attention of a Georgia State Trooper when he made a U-turn to avoid a police road check.

Trooper First Class Matt Miles says that as he gave chase, the suspect’s vehicle reached speeds over 100 mph.

The chase ended as Miles successfully caused the car to spin to a stop on the highway’s shoulder.

The car’s driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the chase, and search of the car turned up methamphetamine and marijuana.

Wade was charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, DUI, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving and a slew of other moving violations.
