WUGA Artist in Residence Event for February!

Jan 30, 2018

In February WUGA is celebrating the work of local painter and sculptor Leonard Piha. His colorful paintings and complex, assembled structures have been exhibited or are on display at Athens Academy, the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, the Chabad House and Hillel near UGA, and in outdoor installations in Georgia and Wisconsin. For years he taught art at Barnett Shoals Elementary School. People attending the year’s first Artists in Residence event -- on February 17th — will see Leonard’s home, studio, and gallery space, all filled with art.

WUGA's Artists in Residence for August 2017

Sara Parker

WUGA is resuming its Artist in Residence series this Saturday by featuring two artists, textile designer and screenprinter Sara Parker and her husband photographer Simon Hunt.

“I’ve always enjoyed making patterns and repeat patterns, and printing on fabric is such a different feel than printmaking on paper,” according to Parker. “One thing that’s so awesome about it is you can use the fabric afterward.”

Hunt explains his style.

Painter, photographer, and author Judith McWillie is WUGA's featured Artist in Residence for June. This is event is now SOLD OUT.  Professor emerita of drawing and painting at the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art, McWillie has exhibited her work in the United States, Japan, Italy and Sweden. More recently, in 2016, she produced a two-hour collaborative event, Beloved Land, at Smithonia Plantation House in Oglethorpe County in collaboration with Knowa and Mokah Johnson, musician Peter Sloan, and poet Steven Scurry to honor the Native People and convict laborers buried there.
