Upcoming WUGA Events
We’re proud to announce the 2017 line-up for WUGA’s Artists in Residence series!
We’re featuring the sculptor who created the Athena statue in front of the Classic Center (Jean Westmacott); Jason Thrasher, whose iconic photographs of Athens musicians were showcased at the Atlanta airport (and elsewhere); the textile artist and printer Sara Parker, whose work is sometimes whimsical and other times gorgeous; two skilled painters who are professors emeriti at the Lamar Dodd School of Art (Judith McWillie and Scott Belville); Stanley Bermudez, whose colorful paintings sometimes address darker themes such as racism; Samuel Stabler, whose work has been exhibited in galleries across Europe; Zuzka Vaclavik, whose watercolors (and other works) are endlessly varied and lovely; and designer and writer Beth Thrasher, who work as an art director for TV garnered an Emmy Award and two Radio-Television News Directors Awards.
The events are a chance to meet the artist and see his or her home and collections. See the dates and featured artists (with just one photo standing in for each person’s splendid body of work) below.
The events are all from 3 to 5 on Saturdays scattered throughout the year. Someone knowledgeable about the artist’s work speaks at roughly 3:30.
Friends of WUGA pay $10; others pay $15. A Friends membership costs $30 annually. Attendees must RSVP with Abbie Thaxton at firstname.lastname@example.org or 706/542-9842. Space is limited. People who register learn the address when they RSVP.
Fine wine from the shop on Baxter now called Uncommon Gourmet and delicious hors d’oeuvres from Marti’s at Midday make these events nicer still.
This schedule is subject to change, as it’s hard for these busy and accomplished artists — for anyone! — to plan so far in advance.
Hope you can join us!
