Voter Fraud Applications Sent to Georgia Attorney General, Ending Investigation

Georgia Office of Attorney General

A state voter registration fraud case from 2014 is finally closing today, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

On Wednesday the Georgia Attorney General’s office received 53 voter registration applications that are allegedly forged.

The applications come from a registration drive that was run by the New Georgia Project, an initiative founded by House Representative Stacey Abrams.

Allegations of voter fraud originally began in 2014. The Attorney General’s office started an investigation then, and left it open over the past three years. So far, a few dozen cases of forged voter applications have been confirmed.

State investigators said there is no evidence the New Georgia Project’s leaders knew about the fraud. Instead it appears that 25 canvassers who worked the drives may have forged the applications.

It will now be up to the AG’s office to decide whether to prosecute the people involved in the voter fraud.

16 counties have expressed concern to the state about the fraudulent voter registration forms from this case.
