While this week has already seen some unofficial events, AthFest 2017 officially kicks off Friday. Recognized by Livability.com as one of the nation’s best summer festivals, the 21st annual AthFest Music and Arts Festival runs through Sunday night. Thousands of people are expected downtown each day for local and regional, music, art, comedy, beer gardens, and culture. Event Coordinator Daniel Robertson Jr. says the fun is also a great fundraiser.
Two Athens residents, Valerie Boyd and William Eiland, are among a dozen in the state being recognized for their contributions to arts and humanities. Governor Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal announced the recipients of the sixth annual Governor’s Awards for the Arts and Humanities on Tuesday.
