Hundreds of attendees are expected to take part in the day-long conference which is aimed at bringing together public health representatives, researchers, and others from across the state to address complicated problems including opioid addiction, health equity, and rural health concerns.
Marsha Davis is the Associate Dean for Outreach in the College of Public health and the event organizer.
“So I think through this conference we’re hoping to create a forum and a group of people who will begin to say we can we tackle in Georgia” Davis said. “And we’re a great a state with lots of energetic and smart people who really know the state, who are invested in its health.”
Dean Davis says the conference brings together those who are working to improve the public’s health to have a dialogue, learn from each other, and take those lessons back to their communities.
“We are bringing in national leaders to provide a national perspective, to those in Georgia so we can see what is happening in Washington, what is happening in different states, to see if we can replicate some of the best practices here in Georgia.”
More than 300 people are attending the event at the Georgia Center, which runs from 9 am to 5 pm Tuesday.
Speakers include Charles Jacob, Laura Hanen, J. Patrick o’ Neal, and Greg Townsend. Workshops focus on topics including improving rural health conditions in Georgia, to using telemedicine, the opioid crisis and more.
