Twitter

The Georgia Bulldogs Head Coach, Kirby Smart, got a contract extension and pay increase today.

During a meeting of Georgia athletics’ executive board on Thursday afternoon, a new deal for head coach Kirby Smart was announced. The contract includes a seven year extension through 2024 and a $49 million dollar compensation package. That’s an average of seven million dollars per year, and almost double Smart’s original signing deal of $3.75 million a year. He also received a $1.35 million dollar bonus for winning the SEC Championship and the Rose Bowl this past year.

Both Athletic Director Greg McGarity and UGA President Jere Morehead expressed their support of Smart and excitement for the upcoming season in a statement released this afternoon.

Smart’s new package makes him one of the highest paid coaches in college football.

The Georgia Bulldogs ended the 2017 season with 13 wins and two losses.
