Three Months After Hurricane Irma, Georgians Receive Millions in Assistance

Months after Hurricane Irma hit the state, Georgians have received tens of millions of dollars in federal and state assistance.

Recovery efforts continue across Georgia three months after Hurricane Irma hit the state. According to a news release from FEMA, the agency, along with the U.S. Small Business Administration and the state of Georgia; provided more than $65 million in assistance to individuals, households, businesses, and communities.

$45.5 million in insurance claims were paid to National Flood Insurance Program, or NFIP policyholders alone. Volunteer organizations including the Salvation Army and American Red Cross, along with churches, provided food, shelter, housing repairs and other aid. All 159 counties in Georgia were approved for grants to help pay for emergency work. while 137 counties were also approved for permanent work funding.

Seven counties, Camden, Charlton, Chatham, Coffee, Glynn, Liberty and McIntosh, received the bulk of the aid.
