St. Mary's Community Internal Medicine of Athens Expands

St. Mary's Health care System

St. Mary’s Community Internal Medicine of Athens is growing. The facility is expanding to cover an entire floor to accommodate news services and 12 new resident physicians. CIMA offers outpatient care for adults, with care provided by resident physicians and faculty.

Public Relations Manager Mark Ralston says the move allows doctors to see more patients.

“CIMA is a full-service, outpatient medical service practice, so anything people would go to a doctor for, they can do,” Ralston said. “That’s normal wellness visits, routine sick visits, and management of chronic conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes.”

Ralston says it’s part of a joint effort.

“CIMA is part of a program between St. Mary’s and the Augusta University/University of Georgia medical partnership that exists to address the shortage of physicians in Georgia. We now have 33 resident physicians practicing at St. Mary’s as part of that program.”

CIMA is located on Oglethorpe Avenue.
