Senator Butch Miller Elected President Pro Tem

The Georgia State Senate begins the 2018 legislative session with a new face in its leadership.

Senator Butch Miller has represented the Gainesville area since 2010. The Republican was elected to serve as President pro tem of the Senate. This is Miller’s second try at the Senate’s number-two job; in 2014 he narrowly lost to Gwinnett County’s David Schafer.

Miller’s election marks another powerful political position held by someone from Hall County; both the governor and the lieutenant governor are also from the Gainesville area.

Miller serves on a number of Senate committees, including Appropriations, Banking, and Rules. He is the vice-chair of the Senate committee which oversees MARTA.
