In spite of donors turning out for an emergency call for blood earlier this summer, the American Red Cross is still in need of blood donors of all types for platelets and blood.
"And even though we have seen a lot of donors come in and they’ve answered that call, the need continues and we are encouraging those maybe gave earlier in the summer who may be eligible again, or those who have not given yet this summer to find a donation location,” according to Kristen Stancil, Communications manager with the organization.
Stancil says the agency is always working to refine and simplify the process.
“It is easy to find a donation location as well as schedule your appointment. You can download the free Red Cross blood donor app, and it’s really great because you can find a location near you. You can also track your donation, and you can invite your family and friends to donate with you. You can also give us a call at 1-800-Red Cross, or go to redcrossblood.org.
Stancil says the Red Cross is also working to shave off a bit of time during your donation.
“We know people are really busy, so to help save about 15 minutes during your donation time, you can actually complete the health history questionnaire before you come in to donate. So from a home or work computer on the day of your donation, you can complete all of that information and when you come in we can just scan it.”
