Reception for Retiring Judge David Sweat

A reception is being held for Chief Superior Court Judge David Sweat Thursday afternoon. Sweat is retiring July 31 and Governor Nathan Deal will appoint an interim judge to serve the remainder of Sweat’s term, which expires on December 31, 2018. Sweat was elected in 2002. During his nearly 15-year tenure, he created a Treatment and Accountability Court.

The body ensures that offenders with serious mental illness, often accompanies by substance disorders, take responsibility for their criminal conduct. He plans to become a senior judge in the Superior Court System. The reception for Judge Sweat takes place Thursday at 3 pm at the Classic Center.
