President Trump Endorses Brian Kemp in Georgia Governor's Race

President Donald Trump is weighing in on the Georgia Governor’s race. Trump tweeted his support for Secretary of State Brian Kemp. In the tweet, Trump called Kemp tough on crime, strong on the border and illegal immigration. Trump says he has his full and total endorsement.

The Kemp campaign issued a statement regarding the president's endorsement:

"I am incredibly grateful to have President Trump's full and total endorsement. Like the president, I am running as a politically incorrect conservative with a plan to put people over politics. As governor, I will unapologetically stand with President Trump to secure our border, deport criminal aliens, crush gangs, and ensure a bright and promising future for our families." - Brian Kemp

The endorsement is yet another setback for Lt. Governor Casey Cagle. The former front-runner has lost ground after secret recordings were released with him saying he supported bad public policy in effort to prevent a political rival from gaining momentum.

Cagle did receive good news Monday when Governor Deal endorsed him.

Kemp is holding an election watch party Tuesday night in his hometown of Athens. It takes place at the Holiday Inn-University Area at 197 Broad Street.

The runoff is July 24. The winner faces Democrat Stacey Abrams.
