One Person Shot at Athens Concert, ACC Police Still Looking for Suspect

The Athens Clarke-County Police Department is looking for a suspect after a shooting at a concert last night.

A shooting occurred at a rap concert at the Athens Arena off of Commerce Boulevard on Sunday night. ACC Police’s Public Information Officer, Epifanio Rodriguez, said that police were providing security at the concert.

“At about 1 in the morning, they hear a single gunshot inside of the arena. And at that point that's when the music goes off and they see a large crowd of people rushing from the inside of the arena, out," said Rodriguez. "Our officers go inside to try to attempt to locate the person doing the shooting. Unfortunately, we can't locate the shooter, however we locate one victim who has been shot one time in the stomach."

The victim who was shot in the stomach was released from the hospital a few hours later. Rodriguez said three others were injured when trying to exit the building, but none of the injuries were life threatening. He also said that it seems the shooting was the result of an argument at the concert, but the victim of the shooting was not the intended target.

Currently ACC Police Department has no information on the identity of the suspect in the shooting. However, Rodriguez said the police are working to get video surveillance from the Arena today to see if it will provide any leads.
