Northeast Georgia Job Numbers Strong Again for February

Department of Labor

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says the Northeast Georgia Region posted strong numbers in February. He says both employment and labor force increased. There was also good news when it came to unemployment numbers as well.

"The jobs report is in for the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission. And we saw that unemployment rate decrease by one tenth of a point, bringing the local unemployment rate down to 4.2%. And the numbers behind that rate decrease are very good. As we continue to see individuals encouraged by the job market in the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission, as we saw over 4,000 individuals actually join the workforce during the month of February," said Butler.

Butler says most of those seeking jobs in north Georgia were successful in finding them.

"And the good news is almost all those individuals were successful in their job hunt, as we saw over 4,000 individuals actually gain employment during the month of February, which is very good news," said Butler. "But not only that, we saw layoffs go down, as indicated by a decrease in initial claims as that number decreased by almost 60 percent. So overall very good job reports for February."

The Northeast Georgia region covers a dozen counties, including Clarke, Barrow, Jackson, Madison, Oconee, and Oglethorpe.

The department encourages both those looking for jobs and employers to visit its online job listing service employgeorgia.com to find or post jobs.
