Local United Way Partnering with Imagination Library to Provide Books to Children

United Way of Northeast Georgia

The United Way is offering community members a chance to give the gift of reading to children in Clarke and Oconee counties this holiday season.

The United Way is a local partner with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library which is holding its annual Operation Imagination Christmas, from now through December 15th.

A gift of $31 dollars to the organization can supply one child with books for an entire year.

Julie Farmer is Director of Education at the United Way.

"Our Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has been serving Clarke and Oconee County for the last ten years," said Farmer. "Each year we send thousands of books to local children with the hopes that we will instill a love of learning in our local children and better prepare them for kindergarten, so that long-term they'll have more academic success."

Each child receives one free book in the mail every month.

Farmer says if families sign their children up at birth, they’ll have 60-book library by the time they start kindergarten.

To give, visit: www.unitedwaynega.org/education

You can also send a check to the United Way at: 1 Hunting Rd., Ste 805, Athens, GA 30606.

Please designate if you would like to give for DPIL in Oconee County or Clarke County.
