Local Developer Files Plans to Build 8,000 Seat Amphitheater on Edge of Athens

Flagpole

On Wednesday, Flagpole reported that local developer, Clint Larkin, has proposed to build an 8,000 seat amphitheater off Commerce Road, north of the Loop.

The amphitheater would have a multiple tiers of seating, along with a stage, concessions, sky suites, an office, and lodging for performers.

Larkin, who is a former UGA football player, bought the lot where the amphitheater is being proposed, for $250,000 in July.  However, the 49-acre piece of land is zoned as residential, meaning it would need to be rezoned to commercial.

The Athens-Clarke County Planning Commission will start reviewing the project next week.

If the building permits are approved, Larkin estimates construction of the amphitheater could take about a year.
