Job Prospects Bright UGA's Class of 2018

UGA

The job prospects are looking bright for the University of Georgia's class of 2018. That’s according to Dr. Jeffrey Humphreys, the Director of economic forecasting at UGA’s Terry College of Business.  He says a multitude of factors are working in their favor.

“Timing is everything when you’re graduating from college and the timing is perfect for this class of college graduates,” according to Humphreys. “We’re at the light stage of an economic expansion, the unemployment rate is very, very low, right now the job seeker is an ideal position for negotiating with employers for a good salary, there will probably be very little competition for many job because the unemployment rate is very, very low.”

Humphreys says graduates should jump right into the workforce, because he does see a slowdown in the next couple of years.

“I do advise graduates not to wait too long. I think the next recession will be in 2020; so this is a good time to get in, establish yourself, prove yourself to your employer, so that you’re not going to get laid off when the next recession comes around in about two years from now.”

About 55% of UGA students already have jobs lined up, and 96 percent of 2017 grads had a job or enrolled in grad school within six months of graduation.
