Georgia's Unemployment Rate Remained Unchanged for March, Slight Dip in Job Growth

Department of Labor

Georgia’s unemployment rate for March remained unchanged at 4.4 percent.

State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler says Georgia continued to set records in March, even though the number of jobs dipped slightly. It’s the first time the number of jobs decreased since September of 2017.

"When you take a look at those over the month numbers just for jobs, I wouldn't put a lot of stock in it. Quite frankly they're going to fluctuate up and down, any given month of the year," said Butler.

Though jobs decrease by 7,400 after increasing by about 6,700 a month last year, Butler says the number of Georgians with jobs reach an all-time high at just under 5 million.

"The good news is those individuals who are joining the workforce, we're seeing even more individuals actually gaining employment. Which is why for the last couple of months we've been setting all time highs, not only in total people in our workforce, but in total number of individuals employed," said Butler. "And the employment number is the one that I really key on the most, because you can have jobs, but if you don't' have jobs that people can actually get, then you haven't really accomplished anything. Here in Georgia, we continue to set new records in total number of Georgians employed every single month."

He says the department’s online job listing service, employgeorgia.com showed over 65,173 new active job postings for the month. Both employers and those looking for jobs are encouraged to visit the site to post or find jobs.
