Georgia Museum of Art is Hosting Seasonal Reception Tonight

Museum Trustee Association

The Georgia Museum of Art is hosting 90 Carlton Winter this evening.

The seasonal reception is aimed at celebrating and showcasing the museum’s winter exhibitions. According to Hillary Brown, Communications Manager with the facility, those attending will also have the chance to get a first look at the exhibition “Crafting History: Textiles, Metals and Ceramics at the University of Georgia,” which opens to the public this evening.

"There are a ton of amazing figures in the history of craft in the country who either came out of UGA's programs or taught here at some point," said Brown.

Brown says in addition to gallery activities, a reception, and a chance to win door prizes, guests will also be able to participate in “Ask the Experts” from 8 to 9 pm. They’ll be able to ask curators and experts about the art on display.

"This was an incredible research project. It has three curators. And they dug through, it feels like just about everything in the Hargrett Library. Those people were a tremendous help, we could not have done this without them," said Brown. "They looked through scrapbooks and letters, they interviewed people, either craft artists who were still alive, or their family members if they were not. They gathered all kinds of vintage photographs, and then they tried to get at least one work from every one of these people who taught in the craft program at some point."

Three other exhibitions will also be featured. The event is free for members and $5 for non-members. It takes place from 5:30 to 9:30 tonight.
