Georgia Law Review Hosting Gerrymandering Symposium on Friday

University of Georgia Law School

Members of the community are invited to a symposium of gerrymandering and redistricting Friday. That symposium, “Walking the Line: Modern Gerrymandering & Partisanship,” will feature panel topics including the 1965 Voting Rights Act, and redistricting implications in Georgia among others.

Katie Wroten is the Senior Symposium Editor. She tells us what those attending can expect.

"So we have an exciting group of individuals joining us," said Wroten. "Some practitioners, some legal scholars, as well as some political science scholars. So a good mix of different perspectives. Our keynote speaker will be Nick Stephanopoulos."

Stephanopoulos is the Fried Research Scholar at the University of Chicago Law School.

The Supreme Court has a case pending on the issue. Executive Symposium Editor John Farmer says there has never been a method of determining the good from the bad.

"Our symposium will bring together a number of professors from law schools across the country, as well as practicing attorneys who have been involved in this area of the law, to sort of present ideas on how we might go about coming up with a test that might work," said Farmer.

The conference is organized by students who are members of the Georgia Law Review.

The conference is from 9 am until 6 pm. Those interested in attending can register at: http://georgialawreview.org.
