Former Self-Proclaimed Neo-Nazi, White Supremacist Skinhead to Speak on Combating Extremism

A former white supremacist is speaking on how she left her life of hate behind and how the community can combat violent extremism.

Shannon Martinez (born Shannon McMorland) is this month’s speaker in the community lecture series, the Mediocre Education Hour or MEH, talks at Live Wire Athens tonight. Her “Bodies of Broken Bones” talk is part of an attempt to keep others from joining hate groups.

“I am a reformed neo-Nazi, white supremacist skinhead who now works with The Against Violent Extremism Network helping others disengage from lives of  radical extremism,” according to Martinez.

Martinez works with local, state and national agencies and groups and even offers education and training to law enforcement in that effort.

“This is a very tangible way that I can use a very unique set of circumstances and a very unique skill set that I have for the good of others.”

The talk is 7:30 Wednesday night and doors open at 7 pm. Admission is free, but donations are accepted and will benefit The Cottage.
