Flash Flood Watch for Athens Area

A flash flood warning is in effect in the Athens area until 8 o’ clock Saturday evening. The National Weather Service there’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms through Saturday afternoon. Forecasters say new rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half an inch are expected, with higher amounts possible. Winds around 10 miles per hour are expected, with gusts up to 20 mph possible.

Clarke, Jackson, Madison, Oconee, and Oglethorpe counties are included in that flash flood watch. A hazardous weather outlook is in effect for much of north and central Georgia through tonight as the remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy pass through the region. The primary hazards will be isolated tornadoes, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rain.
