Atlanta Makes it Into Top 20 Locations for Amazon's Second Headquarters

Business Insider

Atlanta has made the shortlist for Amazon’s second headquarters.

This morning Amazon announced that it has narrowed the highly anticipated search for a second headquarters down to 20 locations. There were 238 proposals that were originally submitted. Atlanta made the cut, along with many other major metropolises across the country, including Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles. Toronto also made the list.

Amazon has said a second headquarters will bring 50,000 jobs and construction spending over $5 billion. The requirements for the city that will land the new headquarters is a metropolitan area with more than 1 million people, being close to an international airport and attracting top technical talent.

Governor Nathan Deal said last week that he would call a special legislative session to talk about possible incentives for Amazon if Atlanta was one of the top contenders.

The final choice for Amazon’s second headquarters is expected to be announced later this year.
