Athenians are invited to come out for the Athens Water Festival at Sandy Creek Park and lake this weekend. The theme of this year’s family-friendly is “Be a Sewer Hero.” Those attending can participate in hands-on activities and games, meet sea-life and other animals, splash with the water trucks. You’re encouraged to bring your swimsuit and a water bottle. Laurie Lofton is the Program Specialist with the Water Conservation Office. She has more on waht those attending can expect.

“We have 20 different organizations that are coming together, these are all organizations that have something to do with water or are somehow tied to water,” Loftin said. “We have activities about the water cycle, our sewer pipes, drinking water treatment plant, how we get that water clean.”

There is a $2 entry fee into the par, but all the activities are free. The festival is from 10:30 am until 2 pm.
