Athens Technical Partnering with Greene County to Develop New College and Career Academy

Athens Technical College

Governor Deal announced today that three new college and career academies will be created in the state.  The Board of the Technical College System of Georgia has approved $9 million dollars in grants to create college and career academies in Greene County, Paulding County and Marietta.

Athens Technical College is going to assist with establishing the Greene County College and Career Academy in Greensboro.

The state’s college and career academies are specialized charter schools that help prepare high school students for the workforce by training them in different technical fields and allowing them to take pre-college courses.

Communities must apply for a grant to create a college and career academy in their area.

Athens has its own Community Career Academy, which is a part of the Clarke County School District.

The $3 million allotted to the Greene County academy will go towards startup costs, construction and initial staffing.
