The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement is taking a group of Athens-area children to the march for Our Lives event in Washington D.C. In the wake of the Parkland school shooting in Florida, which left 17 people dead, children and families will take to the streets of Washington for an anti-gun violence rally.

“I want to take 10 African-American and minority youth to Washington D.C. to be a part of the March for Our Lives and to stand in solidarity with the students from Florida,” Johnson said. “We leave march 23rd and the March for Our Lives event is on the 24th and we’ll back the 25th.”

President and Co-founder Mokah Jasmine Johnson says the nonprofit is seeking donations to help with expense for the trip.

They can just go to our website, www.athensantidiscriminationmovemment.org,  and just donate.

There are still three slots available for area students wanting to attend the march.

“They have to be between the ages of 13 to 17, all expenses paid, the hotel, the travel. They just have to be present.”

The march is Saturday, march 24th from noon to 3 pm on Pennsylvania Avenue. Celebrities including singers Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato are taking part, along with Modern Family cast members Sophia Veraga, and Julie Bowen as well as Jimmy Fallon, and George and Amal Clooney. are expected to take part.
