Athens police are investigating a weekend shooting that left an Athens man hospitalized.
According to a media release from the department spokesperson Epifanio Rodriguez, officers were dispatched to a home off Robert Hardeman Road in reference to a shooting.
When they arrived they found 55-year old Jeffrey Bishop, who was suffering from a gunshot wound.
The investigation found 50-year old James Collins with Mr. Bishop’s ex-wife at his residence. Mr. Collins said Mr. Bishop tried to force his way into the home and when he did, Mr. Collins shot him. Bishop was taken to a local hospital and he is expected to survive.
No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation is continuing.
